Today, I learned about a deaf woman through a two short videos. Her name is kim. She born deaf, but it seems she never give up on finding her voice to express her thoughts and ideas. She uses painting to describe the sound, but her experience of obtaining sound is different from that of ordinary people, so the difference is also the source of strangeness that lead us to developed more on her work. What she conveys and chooses is intended to redefine her own voice through painting, performance and conversation. This is based on her observation of the visual system of sign language used on weekdays and the visual system of music. She found that when sign language and music symbols are presented together in a painting manner, it can open a completely different world perception. In the film, Kim transforms the expression of time into body language and picture, and constructs an infinite space with simple lines. Through this, it makes me feel the length of time, and the sense of time the is moving. She is illustrating the fact that whether it someone has any disability (deaf) or ordinary, in fact everyone has their own voice and unique world. She is proving the voice does belong to her. And she is telling us in her own way that how she feels about the world and how she listens to the world.
